Benjamin Marshall was one of the most accomplished British sporting painters, perhaps second only to the incomparable George Stubbs. Details of first publication of this print of Ricketts urging on his hounds are unknown, but it was probably issued in the first decade of the 19th century, which is when most of Marshall's publishing ventures took place - for example, 'The Earl of Darlington and his Fox-Hounds, 1805. This plate is inscribed with a U.S.A. copyright, 1930, and was reissued by the British Art Co. Ltd., 78 Margaret Street, London.
