The 1997 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup (Sir Peter O'Sullevan's Last Race) was painted to commemorate the retirement of the nation's 'Voice of Broadcasting', the great Sir Peter O'Sullevan. The painting portrays the victory of the grey, Suny Bay, at the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup Handicap Chase, which was run at Newbury on November 29th 1997 and which was the last race on which Sir Peter commentated for the BBC. For Sir Peter O'Sullevan, the afternoon was an emotional one, capped when his own colours were carried to victory by Sounds Fyne in a later race.
