Sergeant Cecil has become one of racings all time favourite racehorses during his eight year career. However, it was not always the case as he didn’t actually win a race until his fourteenth start!!

He was named after his owner's father who was a Sergeant Major in the First World War and died when Terry was 9 years old. There was no gravestone for Sergeant Major Cecil Cooper, so on buying the subject little chesnut horse, Terry decided to name him as a memorial to his father.
