Soccer City Stadium (Johannesburg)
Originally known as the FNB Stadium (First National Bank Stadium) built in 1987 in Diepkloof near Nasrec, Johannesburg, some 10 kilometres to the south west of the City, close to the Old West Reef gold mines, Soccer City Stadium is the largest in Africa, the Stadiums design is inspired by the iconic African cooking pot known as (calabash) the Stadium is the flagship venue for the 2010 Soccer World Cup it will be hosting both the opening and closing games, the seating capacity has been increased from 80,000 to 94,700 with the newly built upper tier, the Stands are articulated by ten black vertical lines, nine are aligned geographically with the nine other Stadiums involved, and the tenth line is aimed at Berlin's Olympic Stadium which hosted the World Cup Final in 2006
